David Ferrer talks about Nadal’s future

In an interview given to the newspaper Marca, David Ferrer, current Spanish captain in the Davis Cup, spoke about Nadal’s future.

“What I can say is that we have to wait a while to see how Rafa will perform in Indian Wells and during the clay court season. Today his priority, even before the Davis Cup, is the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The possibility that he can play doubles with Carlos Alcaraz excites me and all tennis fans,” explained Ferrer.

“Could he play next year too? Yes. Knowing Rafa, I am convinced that he will be competitive if he doesn’t have any new injuries. He has already demonstrated it in Brisbane, where he expressed a high level despite his long absence. If he doesn’t have injuries and is competitive , could continue for another year,” analyzed the former Spanish player.

Nadal reached the United States traveling together with Novak Djokovic. The two immortalized the moment with a historic selfie that went around the web. There are two commitments that will see the Spanish champion take to the field in the USA: The Netflix Slam exhibition with Carlos Alcaraz and, indeed, the ATP Masters 1000 in Indian Wells.

Events that Nadal will use to test his condition after the injury suffered at the beginning of the year at the Brisbane International. The Majorcan’s goal is to compete continuously to experience a season on clay as a protagonist and clear his mind about his future.

Nadal never definitively closed the door on the possibility of playing in 2025, but explained that everything will depend on the reaction of his body. A decision that should arrive, according to what was declared by the person concerned, before the Roland Garros.

“Retirement? I will go day by day and I can’t confirm anything 100% yet. I will say before the Roland Garros whether this will be my last season or not, I still need a few months to reflect,” he told
