R-Truth says Damian Priest fought to keep him with Judgment Day

The pairing of R-Truth with The Judgment Day on Monday nights has been a hit with fans online — and ones who buy merchandise.

It could come to an end tonight (Jan. 15) when Truth teams with his old partner The Miz against Judgment Day’s Tag Team championship duo of Damian Priest & Finn Bálor, though. So before that big story beat, the gang at Busted Open got Truth to tell them a bit about how it came together.

When the idea was pitched to him as he was coming back from a long injury layoff, Truth says he was all for it:

“I was happy. I was ready to get out of the house and go back to the sport that I love. When they said I was working with Judgment Day, I was like, ‘Let’s do it. What are we doing?’ They could have said I was working with anybody and I was ready. I will say this, Judgment Day, they all want me.”

Everyone may not have been convinced, however. Fortunately, Truth had one ally on his side when it came to making his involvement with The Judgment Day an ongoing angle…

“I will say Damian Priest, he was like, ‘Bro, we should keep you around. This thing is working.’ He actually went to, I think it was Hunter [Triple H] and the writers. Damian Priest fought for it.”

In story, Priest is also the one saying he enjoys Truth and convincing his teammates to put off “dealing with him” until a later day. So it seems that could be a little non-fiction sprinkled into the fiction.

Regardless, on behalf of everyone who’s really enjoyed this angle, just want to say…

Gracias, Señor Money in the Bank.
