The management of Benfica Lisbon has positioned itself on the situation of German attacking midfielder Julian Draxler, on loan from Paris Saint-Germain since the start of the 2022-2023 season. The Portuguese staff has no ambition to keep the 29-year-old player, still under contract in the tricolor capital.
On September 1, in the last hours of the summer transfer window, Benfica Lisbon announced the arrival of Julian Draxler, from Paris Saint-Germain. The Portuguese club offered the services of the German winger through a one-season loan without an option to buy. In addition, the Lusitanian team accepted the payment of part of the substantial salary received by the 29-year-old player, more in the plans of the new Parisian coach Christophe Galtier and then invited by Paris to find a new base.
Two meager tenures
Problem for Julian Draxler, his move to Benfica Lisbon is turning out to be disappointing for the time being. Appeared 13 times in all competitions under the Portuguese colors, for 2 goals, the 2014 world champion only started five games, for only two small tenures and one achievement in the league. Paris will therefore have to make a choice, in the summer of 2023, on the continuation of its collaboration with the German international, not retained by Hansi Flick for the 2022 World Cup.
Enlisted by Paris Saint-Germain in January 2017 for an amount of 36 million euros, Julian Draxler then landed in France from Wolfsburg. Since his arrival at the 2022 French champion, the former Bundesliga resident has taken part in 198 matches in all competitions and signed 26 goals, including 131 matches and 17 achievements in Ligue 1.
