Phil Mickelson came back to attack Pga Tour

on

Phil Mickelson is very active on social media these days and it is clear that he is aware of what is happening in the world of golf. ‘Lefty’ has been an eminence in this sport, although he was publicly massacred after some statements referring to Saudi Arabia, in turn the patron of LIV, the new golf circuit.

Phil Mickelson, statements

The Californian was an active part of the creation of the LIV, and this directly made him public enemy number two on the PGA Tour, because the first has been and continues to be Greg Norman. Phil cited the murder of Jamal Khashoggi and the executions of gay people in the Saudi kingdom during an interview. They were two taboo subjects that Mickelson mentioned, although without delving into them. The American and British press were all over it.

Until the start of the LIV tournaments, the winner of six majors completely withdrew from the media spotlight. In recent days he has wanted to discuss various issues and has been very aware of the two major weekly tournaments, the Farmers (PGA Tour) and Desert Classic (DPWT).

However, he did write a curious direct message to the PGA Tour about the clothing worn by golfer Sam Ryder, who was in contention to win the Farmers. It should be explained that the American circuit does not include shorts in its dress code and that tournaments are usually held in fairly warm areas and sometimes with high humidity. On the contrary, the LIV allows it under any circumstance and the DPWT included it in 2020 if the thermal sensation exceeds 38º. In any case, long pants should always be worn both on the PGA Tour and on the rest of the circuits.

Mickelson has singled out Ryder for attacking the PGA in a message saying: “The Tour doesn’t allow shorts, but does it allow this week’s leader to wear sweatpants with ankle socks? Showing 4 inches of ankle? No I’m a trendy guy, I’ll never be, but there are some things I’ll never understand,” he said. Phil’s comment, the truth is that it was mocked by many fans, but it is clear that ‘Lefty’ wanted to throw a pull at his ex-circuit.
