Panthers Reacts Results: The Xavier Legette trade as graded by fans

Sanity and moderation come in numbers, it seems

The results are in and Panthers nation has spoken. 920 Carolina Panthers fans responded to our Panthers Reacts survey last night where they were asked one simple question: how would you grade the Xavier Legette draft pick?

Respondents were given standard grading choices between A and F. We are going to go out on a very long limb in our scientific interpretation of the results and assume that grades of A and B are positive grades, a C grade is a neutral grade, and grades of D and F are negative grades.

With that established, 55% of Panthers fans gave the Legette pick a positive grade last night. 22% gave it the highest grade of an A. 33% of fans gave the pick a negative grade, with 11% of fans giving the pick the lowest grade of an F.

Overall, fans have a generally mixed reaction to the trade. The average is mildly positive, but a lot of fans are at least a little skeptical. A vocal minority are even downright disdainful of the pick. That makes sense. The Panthers cleaned house for the first time in franchise history by checks notes promoting their ‘new’ general manager from within a previously deeply flawed organization.

The Panthers have not sniffed anything close to a winning season since 2017 and fans have little clarity about the quality of football they are being asked to watch this season. Trading up one spot to select a receiver many view as a project was never going to be enough to start a parade. We’re going to have to wait and see how everything turns out, as there are no guarantees in April.
