Ohio State, UCLA win; Bell gets 29 kills in Pro Volleyball victory

Ohio State won its sixth match in a row as the No. 6 Buckeyes swept No. 14 Lewis in the MIVA, where they hold a three-game lead in the win column.

Fourth-ranked UCLA took it to No. 11 USC in the MPSF.

And in the Pro Volleyball Federation, Khat Bell went off for 29 kills — the most ever in the first-year league — as the Vegas Thrill beat the San Diego Mojo.

Friday’s NCAA Division I-II men’s schedule includes a Big West match with No. 5 UC Irvine at No. 18 UC San Diego and three Big West teams playing non-conference matches with No. 2 Long Beach State home for the EIVA’s No. 9 Penn State, No. 3 Hawai’i home for the NEC’s Sacred Heart, and No. 16 CSUN home for the EIVA’s Charleston.

The lone MPSF match has No. 1 Grand Canyon entertaining No. 8 Stanford. 

In the MIVA, No. 12 Ball State is home for Queens and Quincy is at McKendree, while Lindenwood plays host to independent No. 19 Lincoln Memorial.

There’s a key EIVA match when No.17 George Mason is at No. 15 Princeton. NJIT is home for the NEC’s FDU and Harvard is at the NEC’s No. 20 Daemen.

There are four Conference Carolinas matches with Belmont Abbey at Erskine, King at Barton, Emmanuel at North Greenville and Lees-McRae at Mount Olive.

Dominican of the ECC is at the NEC’s Merrimack and in the SIAC Kentucky State plays Morehouse, Central State plays Fort Valley State and Edward Waters plays Benedict.

The only Pro Volleyball Federation match Friday has the Grand Rapids Rise at the Orlando Valkyries.

NCAA men

Ohio State (14-3, 8-1 MIVA) routed visiting Lewis 25-23, 25-17, 25-17 as the Buckeyes hit .352. Shane Wetzel led with 18 kills, hit .400, and had four aces and six digs. Jacob Pasteur had 11 kills with two errors in 18 attacks to hit .500 and had seven aces and three digs. Ohio State had 11 aces with 11 errors. Lewis (9-8, 3-4) got 13 kills from Max Roquet … No. 13 Loyola Chicago (10-8, 5-3 MIVA) swept visiting Purdue Fort Wayne (9-8, 3-5) as Daniel Fabikovic had 18 kills, hit .519, and had two assists, a block and a dig … 

UCLA (13-4, 4-1 MPSF) swept 25-20, 25-10, 25-14 at USC (10-7, 2-3) as the Bruins hit .492. Ethan Champlin had 10 kills and hit .400 to go with two blocks and four digs, and Cooper Robinson had nine kills, hit .467, and had three aces, four blocks and two digs. USC hit .054 …

UC Santa Barbara (6-10) of the Big West won in five at the MPSF’s Concordia Irvine (6-6) behind 23 kills from Geste Bianchi, who had two aces, seven digs and a block … 

In the NEC, No. 20 Daemen (11-2, 6-0) hit .400 and swept at D’Youville (6-5, 1-5). Zach Schneider had 11 kills and hit .500 to go with an assist, an ace and seven digs. Cameron Milligan had nine kills, two aces, three digs and three blocks, one solo. D’Youville hit minus .027.

Pro Volleyball Federation

The Omaha Supernovas (6-3) swept at the Atlanta Vibe (4-3) 25-22, 25-20, 25-22. Jess Schaben-Lansman led Omaha with 12 kills. Brooke Nuneviller had 11 kills and 13 digs and Bethania De La Cruz had nine kills and 14 digs. Atlanta’s Anna Lazareva had match highs of 15 kills and 20 digs.

The Vegas Thrill (3-5) beat visiting San Diego Mojo (1-4) in five as Khat Bell had 29 kills in the 25-23, 25-20, 19-25, 27-29, 15-11 victory. Bell added 14 digs, an ace and six blocks, one solo. Layne Van Buskirk had four kills and 13 blocks, five solo, including the match winner. Libero Kylie Murr had 24 digs and four assists.
