Novak Djokovic: I didn’t feel any pain but I don’t want to celebrate too early

on

Novak Djokovic revealed that he “did not feel any hamstring pain” during his Australian Open round-of-16 as he is optimistic this is a sign that he is “progressing in the right direction.”

After being in pain and discomfort in each of his first three Grand Slam matches, Djokovic dismantled Alex de Minaur 6-2 6-1 6-2.

“We take it day by day. We do a lot of things actually. It’s been honestly exhausting to be involved in a lot of different treatments and machines and stuff that we do. At the same time it was necessary. It is necessary in order to get myself in a condition to play. So I’m really glad that my body has responded really well. Tonight I didn’t feel any pain. I moved as well as I have the whole tournament. It means we are progressing in the right direction,” Djokovic said, per Tennis Majors.

Djokovic underlines: It’s not over yet

Djokovic destroying de Minaur without any feeling any pain is a scary thing for the rest of the competition.

However, Djokovic underlined that he does not want to give any early verdicts.

“It’s just the response of the body. Some days you feel good; some days maybe not as. So, as I said on the court, I do not want to celebrate too early because I don’t know how the body’s going to respond tomorrow and for the next match. What I felt tonight is fantastic,” Djokovic added.

Meanwhile, Djokovic played against de Minaur for just the first time.

For de Minaur, playing Djokovic for the first time definitely wasn’t a memorable experience.

De Minaur was hoping to reach his first Grand Slam quarterfinal in front of his home fans but Djokovic had other plans.

In his next match, Djokovic plays against Andrey Rublev, who outlasted Holger Rune in five sets.

Going into the match, Djokovic is definitely the favorite to beat Rublev.
