Nick Kyrgios’ manager: Knee surgery went great, he is in fantastic place mentally

on

Nick Kyrgios’ manager Daniel Horsfall revealed the Australian’s surgery went great and added the entire Kyrgios team is “pretty pleased” with the outcome of the surgery.

Kyrgios, who was hoping to become a Grand Slam champion in front of his home fans at the Australian Open, suffered a meniscus tear which led to a cyst growing inside his knee.

After speaking with the doctors, Kyrgios figured out that withdrawing from the Australian Open and undergoing a surgical procedure was the best thing to do.

“The surgery went great, to be honest, we couldn’t have asked for a better result. We’re all pretty pleased, the team is ready to go, when he’s ready, we’re ready. He’s in a knee brace at the moment, he only has movement up to about 70 degrees. We have a post-op appointment today to test where it’s at, but we’ve been talking to the surgeon most days and also the physio. They’re really, really pleased, he might be recovering faster than what we were expecting so it’s good news,” Horsfall told SEN Breakfast.

Horsfall: Kyrgios will return knowing his knee is all good

Withdrawing from the Australian Open was certainly a tough blow for Kyrgios.

But looking at the bigger picture, Kyrgios won’t have to worry about the state of his knee when he returns to competitive action.

“He’s fantastic (mentally) at the moment. He’s at home, playing Pokemon, eating his mum’s food, it doesn’t get much better than that. A lot of things players don’t get in general is the time to recover. You play all year round. It is disappointing that he’s had this surgery but it means two things, he’s had his knee cleaned up and is going to be back better than ever. But also, we have this time to get him fitter and stronger than he was this time last year. It’s all green lights,” Horsfall added.

Kyrgios won’t be competing in any tournaments this month.

However, there is a chance we will Kyrgios in action in March, when the time comes for the Masters 1000 events in Indian Wells and Miami.
