The Eagles have a new linebacker! With a familiar name!

With the 155th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles select … Jeremiah Trotter Junior, linebacker, Clemson!

The Eagles traded up to make this selection by sending No. 164 and No. 201 to the Indianapolis Colts.

Well, isn’t this fun?!

Trot Junior’s father was obviously a good and well-liked player for the Eagles once upon a time. A lot of fans were hoping that the Eagles would be able to land the St. Joe’s Prep alumnus.

Expectations for Trot Junior need to be kept in check; it’s not fair to assume he’s going to be exactly like his dad. A Day 3 pick can’t merely be assumed to instantly solve the Eagles’ linebacker woes.

But Trot Junior certainly has the potential to help. He has a track record of making plays in college. Certainly worth taking a chance on him at this point, especially when the Eagles don’t have much linebacker talent to work with.

Trotter figures to be a backup behind projected starters Devin White and Nakobe Dean. We’ll see if he can push for playing time.

Scouting report via NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein:

Inside linebacker who plays with dogged determination and a nose for the football that helps him pack out the stat sheet. Trotter comes from NFL bloodlines and operates with consistency, play strength and a willingness to do the dirty work. He’s quick to diagnose and moves with exceptional body control and footwork to play around bodies and get to the rock. He’s not very big or long, but his football IQ makes it a moot point. He has adequate pursuit speed with good short-area burst and real talent in getting to the quarterback as a blitzer. Trotter can get to the ball with clear eyes and above-average efficiency and has a chance to be a long-time starter in the league.

Sources Tell Us: “Really smart. Always under control. He gets guys lined up and he’s really quick to read and react. If he was a little bigger I could see him going in the first [round].” – AFC executive
