Matteo Manassero dreams of a new venture

on

After his comeback victory on the DP World Tour, 11 years since his last win, Matteo Manassero is now dreaming of another triumph. Fresh off his win in South Africa at the Jonsson Workwear Open, the new Italian golf number 1 will be among the most anticipated contenders at the Porsche Singapore Open, scheduled from March 21st to 24th at the Laguna National Resort Club course. In the first event of the Asian Swing, eight Italians will be competing. Alongside Manassero, there will be Guido Migliozzi, Edoardo Molinari, Renato Paratore, Francesco Laporta, Andrea Pavan, Lorenzo Scalise, and Filippo Celli. The only Italian with “full status” missing from the lineup will be Francesco Molinari, who will be busy in Florida (USA) at the Valspar Championship during the same days.

The competition, now in its second edition, will offer a prize purse of $2,500,000, with $425,000 going to the winner. Additionally, a Porsche Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid will be awarded to the player who achieves a hole-in-one at the 17th hole. Defending his title from 2023, when he edged out Finnish player Sami Valimaki by one shot, will be Ockie Strydom. The South African will play the first two rounds of the competition with Englishman Jordan Smith and German Yannik Paul, while Manassero will be paired with Major champion Irishman Shane Lowry (winner of The Open in 2019) and Japanese player Rikuya Hoshino. Among the Euro-triumphants at the Ryder Cup in Rome, Lowry is expected to be a favorite. Alongside him, there will also be chances for Danish player Rasmus Hojgaard, South African Thriston Lawrence, and Northern Irishman Tom McKibbin.

Notably, Englishman Paul Casey, a 15-time champion on the DP World Tour, will return to play on the top European male circuit after an absence of 26 months. After transitioning to the Arabian Super League in 2022, he has played only two events outside of the LIV Golf, both on the Asian Tour.
