Judgment Day ensures Damian Priest is still world heavyweight champion

on

JD McDonagh and Finn Balor did what they needed to do, but the group remains on uneven ground.

Everyone and everything in WWE is over in Lyon, France, as evidenced by Friday Night SmackDown this week, but Jey Uso’s entrance at today’s (Sat., May 4, 2024) Backlash premium live event at the LDLC Arena was something special. This man was OVER.

He was there to challenge The Judgment Day’s Damian Priest for his world heavyweight championship, the title he won by cashing in the Money in the Bank contract at WrestleMania 40 on Drew McIntyre. The Bloodline loomed large over the proceedings, as the newest version of the group were shown passing by Jey just before he made his big entrance. Meanwhile, Priest’s issues with his own group were also front and center, as JD McDonagh showed up to help him in the match despite his protests.

Despite those protests, it was interference from both McDonagh and Finn Balor that repeatedly saved the day for Priest. There were some incredibly close falls, the kind that have you believing a change is coming.

Jey was forced to fight 1v3, and it was simply too much to overcome. A South of Heaven chokeslam finished it.

Just as interesting was what came after — McDonagh and Balor attacked Jey and Priest physically threw them off, asserting dominance over both. The power struggle continues, but the championship stays within the group.

Hey, I guess at least The Bloodline didn’t interfere.
