This is not really a surprise.

Dianna Russini is reporting that Jim Harbaugh and Bill Belichick are not on the Tennessee Titans‘ list of candidates to consider for their open head coaching position. She also says that the Titans are open to a coach who specializes on either side of the ball – meaning they won’t necessarily only hire an offensive guy. While I have made it clear that I want them to hire an offensive guy, this is the right approach. They should talk to anyone they feel could be a good head coach.

As for Harbaugh and Belichick, it’s no surprise they aren’t on the list. Amy Adams-Strunk has made it clear she wants someone that will work in collaboration with Ran Carthon and his staff. Harbaugh doesn’t seem to be that guy. He is probably going to want significant control wherever he goes.

Belichick has had complete control with the New England Patriots for a long time. It seems that he wouldn’t want to come to a place where he is forced to work for or even collaborate with a second-year general manager.

Plus you have the relationship between Vrabel and Belichick. Now that might be strained now that Vrabel has clearly been gunning for his job for months (as I talked about on today’s Home Run Throwback podcast, listen here), but it wouldn’t make much sense for AAS to try and hire one of Vrabel’s friends.
