Jets trade defensive end for a 2026 6th round pick

The New York Jets have traded defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers to the Denver Broncos in exchange for a 2026 sixth round pick.

John Franklin-Myers was one of Joe Douglas’ early moves as GM of the New York Jets. Douglas picked Franklin-Myers up off waivers in 2019. He missed the 2019 season with an injury before becoming a valuable piece along the Jets’ defensive front in 2020. Franklin-Myers has been an above average defensive lineman with positional versatility over the last four seasons. In four years with the Jets he racked up 17.5 sacks and 61 quarterback hits.

Franklin-Myers received a big contract extension in 2022 and that ultimately spelled his doom with the Jets. He was the third highest cap hit on the Jets roster before this trade, and trading him provides the Jets with much needed cap relief. This trade may also open up substantial playing time for 2023 first round pick Will McDonald.
