The Scottish Warrior has re-signed with WWE, but is he working solely for The Final Boss?

Last weekend, TKO Board of Directors member Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson announced on social media that Drew McIntyre had re-signed with WWE. The news was met with widespread approval, particularly given McIntyre’s standout performances in recent months, widely regarded as the best work of his career.

“Man of my word,” Johnson wrote on Instagram. “As you’re a man of yours – Congratulations @dmcintyrewwe on signing your new @wwe deal.”

The extent of The Rock’s influence on McIntyre’s decision remains unclear. However, The Rock’s public announcement could potentially lead to an on-screen scenario where McIntyre aligns with The Final Boss, transitioning from Scottish Warrior to The Rock’s corporate champion.

Since returning to WWE and aligning with The Bloodline, most have assumed that it was only a matter of time before The Rock would attempt to snake the familial stable away from its leader and Tribal Chief, Roman Reigns. Following the main event at night two of WrestleMania, cameras caught Johnson and Reigns distancing themselves from each other. The next night on Raw, The Final Boss hinted at becoming a future challenger to Cody Rhodes and his Undisputed WWE Championship while declaring that Rhodes’ business with Reigns was over.

Meanwhile, on SmackDown, Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga have been working to take over The Bloodline. Though Reigns executed a power play during the 2024 WWE Draft, reminding everyone who still runs things in the Samoan dynasty, Sikoa is working feverishly to seize The Bloodline by force. Perhaps he’ll need some assistance.

Enter Drew McIntyre.

Since 2019, McIntyre has had multiple issues with Reigns. In WWE canon, McIntyre still blames Reigns and his family for costing him the Undisputed Universal Championship at Clash at the Castle in 2022. While the idea of McIntyre having a working relationship with any members of the Samoan clan seems unlikely, money makes for strange bedfellows. In storyline, whatever deal Rock struck with McIntyre might make the latter more inclined to work on behalf of The Final Boss.

Additionally, McIntyre could be a key player in a storyline culminating in a showdown between Reigns and The Rock, resulting in the Scottish superstar finally avenging his past losses to The Tribal Chief. A collaboration between McIntyre and The Rock could also lay the groundwork for an epic War Games match, pitting the corporate Bloodline faction consisting of The Rock, McIntyre, Sikoa, Tonga, and potentially Jacob Fatu, against the original Bloodline crew of Reigns and Jimmy and Jey Uso, with former Honorary Uce Sami Zayn and Reigns’ former Shield partner Seth Rollins potentially joining the fray.

For now, one can only look at Rock’s announcement and speculate on how, or if, he and McIntyre might team up in the future on WWE television. With McIntyre at home, recovering from an elbow injury, and with his draft status yet to be determined, it’ll be interesting to see what changes WWE makes to McIntyre’s presentation, if any, upon his return to the ring.
