Parthiv Patel calls out user for spreading fake news

The Mumbai Indians (MI) management is facing considerable backlash from fans after appointing Hardik Pandya as the team captain for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. This decision has sparked numerous rumours and speculations circulating on the internet. Many users and fans are spreading misinformation regarding MI’s captaincy decision.

In addition, a user recently took to social media to share a fabricated quote falsely attributed to former Indian cricketer Parthiv Patel.

Parthiv Patel calls out user for sharing a fake quote under his name

Following MI’s four-wicket loss against Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday, a user shared misattributed quote on X (formerly Twitter) allegedly said by Parthiv during the commentary of MI’s game. The user claimed that Parthiv remarked that MI is a formidable team but is struggling in the tournament due to the quick decision to change the team’s captaincy.

“Mumbai Indians was favourite with such a strong team and still they are out of the tournament. This is what happens when you try to change things quickly,” the user wrote on X, giving Parthiv credit for it and attached photos of Hardik and Parthiv on it.

Reacting to it, the 39-year-old curbed this fake news and stated that he was not even involved in covering the match between LSG and MI.

“Fake quote. I haven’t even covered this game. The last one I did was on Sunday. And back on next week. So please stop spreading false information to get views and clicks,” Parthiv wrote on X. Notably, the user deleted his tweet after being called out by Parthiv.

In the post-match presentation, MI skipper Hardik Pandya blamed the team’s batting order failure for suffering a loss. However, he lauded Nehal Wadhera for his innings of 46 off 41.

“I think losing early wickets is tough to recover from and that’s what we couldn’t do it today. You still have to see the ball and hit. We just missed those balls and got out, that has been the kind of season we have had so far,” said Pandya.

“I have always believed that you will be up and you’ll be up, just that you got to give it your all. A lot of things to learn from this game. It has been fantastic. I think he (Wadhera) did last year as well, he couldn’t get opportunities earlier but he will play a lot of IPL and India eventually,” the 30-year-old added.
