The NFL story can’t be told without the contributions of Joe Collier.

Broncos Country and the Denver Broncos organization lost a legend yesterday as we got news of Joe Collier passing away at the age of 91.

Joe is a coach that I spent a good amount of time reading up on early in my career here at milehighreport.com to understand the 3-4 defense better. I remember a deep sense of pride that a coach from our team revolutionized the NFL by thinking outside the box. Honestly, he did what all great coaches do: put the best players on the field and put them in the best possible position to be successful.

The Orange Crush defense was before my time as a fan, but I’ve listened to many a story from our older brothers and sisters in Broncos Country about how good that defense was. Joe in a way caught the whole league with their pants down as he caused opposing offenses nightmares with the new scheme.

Please do comment below if you have a story to share about what Joe Collier meant to you as a fan. We’d love to remember along with you as we grieve the loss of Joe.

Finally, our thoughts and prayers go out to Joe’s family and friends as they grieve their loss.
