Hero Cup, Continental Europe ahead of GB

on

The selection of Continental Europe, led by Francesco Molinari and which includes Guido Migliozzi, is ahead by 3 to 2 over that of Great Britain & Ireland, led by the Englishman Tommy Fleetwood after the first day of the Hero Cup, which is taking place in Abu Dhabi, UAE on the National Course course (par 72) at Abu Dhabi GC. An event that the English Luke Donald, captain of Team Europe, is following carefully to view the 20 players in the competition, ten per team, and get ideas in view of the Ryder Cup, the challenge with Team USA scheduled from 29 September to 1st October at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Guidonia Montecelio (Rome). Especially in a wild card key, since a part of the team will be dictated by the two rankings (European Points and World Points) which qualify by right.

Hero Cup, results

Five fourballs matches took place on the first day. Two draws for the blues. Guido Migliozzi/Victor Perez impacted Callum Shinkwin/Matt Wallace after a match in which the couples led in turn, but never going beyond 1 up. Two holes conquered by the French and three by the blue, against two by Shinkwin and three by Wallace, the last one for a tie at 18.

Francesco Molinari/Nicolai Hojgaard went 1 down on the sixth hole against Ewen Ferguson/Richard Mansell. Then a hole won by the Dane (who replaced his injured twin brother Rasmus) and two by the blue produced a 2-up at 11, but Mansell restored the balance with birdies at 12 and 15.

Two continental victories signed by Thomas Pieters/Alex Noren (1 up on Tommy Fleetwood/Shane Lowry), and by Thomas Detry/Antoine Rozner (2 up on Tyrrell Hatton/Jordan Smith), in both cases with decisive birdies by Noren and Detry on the 18th hole. For GB&I the only success of Seamus Power/Robert MacIntyre (4/3 over Sepp Straka/Adrian Meronk) in a match without history.

In the second of the three days of competition, two sessions of five foursomes matches will be held, while in the last, Sunday 15 January, ten singles will take place.
