Other Giant observations

New leaders must step up to fill void on evolving Giants roster entering pivotal 2024 season | New York Daily News

Brian Daboll’s team only has four months to create a new identity and fortify itself for the rigors of this regular season. Several of the Giants’ leaders, including former face of the franchise Saquon Barkley, are no longer with the team. That includes captains, including Xavier McKinney, and steady presences in Tyrod Taylor, Jihad Ward and Justin Pugh.

Bobby Okereke, Andrew Thomas and others remain. But this team is young and very different. Some new faces and voices need to step into the void alongside them — quickly — to prepare this team for the pressures and rigors of the 2024 season

2. Malik Nabers, WR, Giants. Nabers is different. The personification of electricity on a football field. And he’s 6-foot and around 200 pounds. He tracks the football like a champ and was the finest YAC wideout in the class. Burst, vision, and a borderline unshakable equilibrium when contacted by the first — and sometimes the second — defender.

The receiver room in New York is not exactly intimidating, although Wan’Dale Robinson flashed when healthy in 2023, as did Jalin Hyatt. Nabers will see well over 120 targets in Year 1, and even if Daniel Jones doesn’t transform into 2011 Eli Manning, Nabers has the rare talent to make something out of short, high-percentage throws or slightly off-target downfield tosses.

Most improved receiving corps following the 2024 NFL Draft: New York Giants, Los Angeles Chargers lead the way | PFF

Darius Slayton‘s ongoing contract discussions combined with the Giants having the worst receiving grade in the league last year left the team in need of some juice at wideout. The team got exactly that in LSU’s Malik Nabers, who led the FBS in receiving grade in 2023 (minimum 15 targets). A staple of Nabers’ game is slipperiness after the catch, as reflected by his 30 missed tackles forced last year.

If Slayton does remain in blue and red, he’ll form a potent one-two punch with the 20-year-old Nabers. Regardless, Nabers provides real insurance, given the inconsistent production of Wan’Dale Robinson and Jalin Hyatt, who each tallied less than 530 yards in 2023.

CB ANDRU PHILLIPS, NEW YORK GIANTS

Phillips was one of my favorite picks from the third round this past year. He is an aggressive, press-coverage cornerback who is fearless in man coverage. In the 2023 regular season, the Giants ran the second most plays out of 2-Man, Cover 0 and Cover 1, and ranked 10th in press coverage. Pair that with the Giants drafting Deonte Banks (another heavy press man cover) in the first round last year, and you have a similar style for both of your outside cornerbacks now – even with defensive coordinator Wink Martindale gone.

Free Agents Giants Should Pursue After 2024 NFL Draft | Bleacher Report

Between free agency and the draft, the New York Giants have done a solid job of addressing some of their biggest needs. Three players Big Blue should consider bringing are RB Jerick McKinnon, DL Lawrence Guy, and CB Eli Apple.

Remaining questions for all 32 teams after the 2024 NFL Draft | NFL News, Rankings and Statistics | PFF

How secure is Daniel Jones’s position as the starting quarterback of this team?

Daniel Jones may have signed a huge contract extension in 2023, but there have been questions all offseason about whether the Giants would replace him at quarterback. While they did sign Drew Lock in free agency, they ultimately did not draft a quarterback in the first round of the draft.

Furthermore, they even strengthened the offense around Jones by selecting wide receiver Malik Nabers and bringing help along the offensive line, as well. With these additions, it is fair to wonder how long a leash Jones has and whether Lock will get a chance in this offense if Jones fails to improve in 2024.

NFL Legend Lawrence Taylor Finds Peace And Competitiveness In Golf | Forbes

Retiring as the Giants’ franchise sacks leader (132.5) after the 1993 season, Taylor has dedicated his efforts to another sport, which not only offers him solace, but still scratches his competitive itch.
