G2 and Virtus.pro become first teams qualified for PGL Major Copenhagen 2024

With the European RMR 1 now underway, G2 and Virtus.pro have become the first teams to qualify for the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 after emerging top of their brackets in 3:0 fashion. As the first CS2 Major, extra importance is given to this event. It should prove to be the most prestigious Counter-Strike event of the year, with every team wanting a place at next month’s huge event.

Easy work for G2

The first game in the 2:0 bracket saw G2 take on a FaZe Clan still reeling from their IEM Katowice 2024 Grand Final defeat. Throughout the RMR so far, we’d seen signs that G2 had finally stopped being “m0NESY and friends,” with everyone contributing on their way to the 2:0 bracket. If they were to beat FaZe, they’d need that to continue.

Safe to say, that’s exactly what happened. A barn-burner performance saw NiKo find his mojo as G2 dominated FaZe in a 2:0 series, where the latter never really looked competitive. After missing out on winning a CS:GO Major, the hunt for Counter-Strike’s greatest prize continues for NiKo. FaZe now move to the 2:1 bracket, although we suspect they won’t have too much trouble making it to PGL Major Copenhagen 2024.

Virtus.pro makes it through

Virtus.pro continue their reign as the most annoying Counter-Strike team in the world to play against. Will they play fast, or will they play slow? Will they save after losing a single player? We’re not sure even VP know the answer in any given round, making them a pain for any team to face. This time around, it was NAVI who felt their wrath in the 2:0 bracket, with Virtus.pro joining G2 as the first teams qualified for the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 next month.

FL1T and fame will take the plaudits here as the overall top performers in the series, but you can’t ignore some great calling from Jame. It was a big step forward for Virtus.pro, who just last year became the first-ever Major champions to not even make it to the next one (IEM Rio 2022 winners, failed to qualify for the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023). Now, their focus can move to figuring out how they can go on to win the entire event.

NiP’s big disaster

Out of the Major, out of ideas, and for this roster, likely out of time. A once legendary organization, Ninjas in Pyjamas find themselves a laughing stock after crashing out of the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 European RMR with an embarrassing 0:3 performance. With a draw of Eternal Fire, AMKAL, and SAW, this wasn’t down to poor matchmaking. This was a team that to have any hope of competing, needs a total renovation from top to bottom. Not just the players, but the management staff. The NiP name deserves better.

Their final match against SAW finished in a swift 2:0 series. 13:5 and 13:3 the scorelines, with NiP not even winning enough rounds combined to take a single map. Only REZ managed an even K/D for the Ninjas, and you suspect he may be the sole survivor of any forthcoming roster moves. Now begins an important period of reflection for Ninjas in Pyjamas. There are sure to be some big decisions that they really can’t afford to get wrong again.
