Future Call of Duty Crossover Could Feature Fallout

on

Activision Blizzard seems eager to soak up some of the success of the Fallout franchise by hosting a crossover event in Call of Duty. Recently, dataminers found references to Fallout in some code for Modern Warfare 3, suggesting that a crossover is on the cards and could drop in the next few weeks. It’s not unlike Call of Duty’s studios to piece together collaborations of this kind, but it’d be the first-ever appearance of the post-apocalyptic franchise in the series.

Fallout has had crossovers into various other titles historically, but never Call of Duty. The two franchises have entirely different demographics, but the recent success of the Fallout TV show has catapulted the series into the limelight, attracting millions of users to the ecosystem.

Fallout in Call of Duty?

call of duty crossover

Alongside crossover events for Gundam and The Crow, dataminers found reference to a Fallout collaboration happening soon in Call of Duty. All that’s known at the moment is that it’s referenced in the code – there’s nothing to indicate what that crossover would look like. It could be a like-for-like replication of the television series, with an Operator being created that’s modelled around the series’ characters, or it could be a reskin of an existing Operator, putting them in an iconic ‘Vault Suit’.

In terms of weapons, there’s a vast plethora available in Fallout that Activision’s studios could lean on. From the instantly recognisable laser and plasma weapons to the ballistic-based 10mm pistol, combat rifle, or pipe weapons that are prevalent in the more recent Fallout games, there’s a lot Activision could do with that palette.

As with any crossover event, there would likely be a series of charms, stickers, cards, and emblems themed around the Fallout series. Surprisingly, more games haven’t taken advantage of Fallout’s popularity just yet. There are immense expectations that Fortnite will release Fallout-themed skins at some point, which would likely sell remarkably well.

Presently, this is nothing more than a single line of code discovered by dataminers – only time will tell if this materialises into something more tangible. Will it arrive before the Black Ops 6 reveal in June?
