FaZe crush Spirit’s hopes in PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 Quarter-Finals

on

The PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 Quarter-Finals are underway, and we only have one word so far – wow. With Vitality vs. Cloud9 and FaZe vs. Spirit on the agenda, we knew we were in for a banger couple of matches. But still, even we couldn’t predict the level of CS on display here. If the rest of the Major lives up to today’s offerings, then we might be about to watch the best Counter-Strike Major of all time.

With one of the best days of CS in recent memory in the bank, let’s take a look at how the action went down on the server.

The first match of the day was Vitality vs. Cloud9, which we predicted as a tight affair in favor of Vitality. We were kind of right, in that Vitality took the series, although it was never really close. Cloud9 managed to make the first map somewhat competitive, although when it reached Anubis, flameZ came online, and from there it was a real no-contest.

The win confirmed what we already knew about Cloud9 – they desperately need an AWPer. It doesn’t matter who – m0NESY will be the main target, but even degster would get the job done. Boombl4 might pop off on AWP in certain games, but he’ll never be consistent enough with it to challenge for trophies. For Vitality, they’ll be extremely pleased with how today panned out. ZywOo seemed to be recovered from his illness, while mezii showed better form than the rest of his PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 journey. In this kind of form, Vitality will fancy themselves to go back to back.

It’s official – donk won’t be winning the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 on his first attempt. FaZe won the day, but it was not a simple win. With the series tied at 1:1, FaZe looked to be running away with it on the Vertigo decider. At 12:5, it seemed done and dusted. But Spirit aren’t ones to go down without a fight. They dragged the game kicking and screaming to overtime, in what risked becoming FaZe’s biggest ever Major bottlejob (and there’s some competition).

Step up, rain. he was the man for the big clutches, stepping up in a way that zont1x on the Spirit side couldn’t, while karrigan also rolled back the years to deliver a true captain’s performance. The experience in the huge moments on stage was the difference here – most of FaZe have already won every prize that Counter-Strike can afford them, while Spirit are still getting used to this kind of pressure. They overcame pressure in Katowice, but here it was a different story. The result was an instant classic, with all the heartbreak, heroics, and drama expected from a Grand Final packed into the Quarters. For newbies to the CS2 esports scene, it’s a must-watch.

Spirit will be understandably upset, but we know they’ll be back stronger. And as for FaZe? Well, they may have ruined our PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 Pick’Ems, but we suspect they’ll now go on to win the entire thing.
