The Atlanta Falcons had back to back picks in the 6th round of the NFL Draft and they used the first of them (selection 186) on running back Jase McClellan out of the University of Alabama.

After a couple days of exclusively building up their defense, the Falcons have addressed their backfield depth with the selection of McClellan, who has prototypical size (5’10, 221 pounds) and the type of three-down skillset which should give him an opportunity at the professional level.

McClellan figures to be the favorite to win Atlanta’s RB3 battle, behind Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier. He doesn’t have great explosiveness, which has contributed to him still being on the board at this point, but he does have good vision and can be a fit behind multiple different blocking schemes.

A very big positive for any young RB is the fact that Jase is a good pass blocker coming into the league, while also contributing some good traits as a receiver (soft hands, good route running footwork).

At Alabama in 2023, McClellan tallied 1,027 yards from scrimmage and eight total touchdowns. He had 24 total scores during his four-year career in college and figures to be able to step into a spot starter role if the injury bug hits the position for the Falcons.
