They are not happy.

After months of anticipation and speculation, the Atlanta Falcons have at last revealed their hand in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. In a move that has caught many off guard, the Falcons have opted for quarterback Michael Penix, Jr. from Washington as their first selection of the weekend. This unexpected choice had sparked debates and analysis across the football community as fans and pundits alike scramble to dissect the implications of this questionable and surprising selection.

In the wake of the surprising draft decision by the Falcons, there’s a palpable buzz of discontent among fans eager to weigh in on the matter. Seeking to gauge the pulse of the fanbase following last night’s pick, we set out to capture the sentiments and reactions swirling within the fanbase. The consensus? It’s safe to say that the majority of fans are less than thrilled with the choice made by their “beloved” franchise.

As you can see by the graphic above, a whopping 54% of those surveyed gave the grade an F. That’s very difficult to do in the first round considering that’s where your safest selections usually happen. Meanwhile, only 14% gave the decision a B or better.

I certainly understand the frustration, and I’m definitely in the D to F group. Although Penix I believe is a good quarterback who can have success at the next level, the pick didn’t make sense to me for the direction Atlanta seemed to be heading in this offseason. The signing of Kirk Cousins to a big contract was a sign that they thought they could be competitive now, so why not take someone who can help you this season? There’s no arguing that in regards to the upcoming season, the Falcons did not improve last night. They may have improved in 3-4 years, but they did not improve for the season ahead of us.

There’s still plenty of picks to be made tonight and tomorrow for the Falcons, but how would you grade the first round for the Falcons?
