As part of the Asian Swing of the DP World Tour 2024, the tournament moves to Delhi for the Hero Indian Open, a golf event that promises entertainment and exciting challenges on the greens. With a high-level field, including a seven-player Italian contingent, the focus is on the possibility of further success following Matteo Manassero’s victory three weeks ago.

DP, schedule

In last year’s edition, the DLF Golf & Country Club saw Marcel Siem triumph in a thrilling finish, with Yannik Paul in second place. This year, Marcel Siem will not be present to defend the title, but Yannik Paul counts himself among the favorites and reference points of the event. Another name to watch is Danish debutant Rasmus Højgaard. Spaniards Adrian Otaegui and Adri Arnaus, along with a strong representation of Indian players like Shubhankar Sharma and Anirban Lahiri, promise a competitive tournament.

Among the Italians, Guido Migliozzi returns to the field with growing form and the aim of returning to victory. Matteo Manassero, fresh from a recent victory, is awaited with interest, while Francesco Laporta tries to redeem himself after a mixed performance in Singapore. Also at the start are players such as Edoardo Molinari, Filippo Celli, Lorenzo Scalise and Andrea Pavan.

Television coverage will be provided by Sky Sport, which will broadcast all four days of the competition on Sky Sport Golf, offering fans the opportunity to follow the excitement of the tournament up close.

India, also known as Bharat in Hindi, is a federal republic located in South Asia, with New Delhi as its capital. With an area of 3,287,263 km², it is the seventh largest country in the world by area. As of 2023, with a population of 1.4 billion, it is the most populous country in the world.

Geographically, India is surrounded by the Indian Ocean to the south, the Arabian Sea to the west and the Bay of Bengal to the east, with a coastline approximately 7517 km long. It borders Pakistan to the west, China, Nepal and Bhutan to the northeast, and Bangladesh and Myanmar to the east. Neighboring island states include Sri Lanka to the southeast and the Maldives to the southwest. India boasts vast plant and animal diversity and numerous protected habitats.

Historically, India was home to the Indus Valley Civilization and played an important role in historic trade routes and vast empires. It is considered the birthplace of four major world religions: Buddhism, Hinduism, Jainism and Sikhism. Other religions, such as Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, spread to the region by the first millennium AD, contributing to the country’s rich cultural diversity.

Under the reign of Emperor Aurangzeb, India was a major global economy, accounting for 25% of the world’s GDP. However, it was gradually brought under the control of the British East India Company in the 18th century and subsequently colonized by the United Kingdom in the 19th century. India gained independence in 1947 after a Gandhi-led struggle for non-violence.

Currently, India is the world’s fifth largest economy by nominal GDP and third largest by purchasing power. Thanks to economic reforms, it has become one of the fastest growing economies and is part of the BRICS. Indian society is characterized by great linguistic, ethnic and religious diversity, although it still faces challenges such as poverty, illiteracy and malnutrition. The caste system, although officially abolished in 1947, continues to have a significant influence on society.
