Who will the Rams select on day two of the NFL Draft

The Los Angeles Rams began day one of the NFL Draft by selecting edge rusher Jared Verse out of Florida State. With offense dominating the picks early, Verse was your best player available meets team need best case scenario. The Rams will hope day two of the draft falls just as well for them. Here’s who Los Angeles could select on Friday.

52: CB Max Melton, Rutgers

Max Melton is a player that I had in my original mock draft, and I still believe cornerback is a position that the Rams address on day two. Melton is a great fit and would be a perfect selection in the second round. After the Arizona Cardinals selected Marvin Harris Jr. with the fourth overall pick, taking Melton makes a lot of sense if he’s available. Not many cornerbacks found success against Harrison at the college level. Melton was one of those cornerbacks. He gave up three catches for 18 yards against Harrison and is a true competitor at the cornerback position.

While the Rams passed on Terrion Arnold in the first round, addressing the cornerback on day two where there is a lot of value could be in the cards. The Rams solidified their pass rush with edge rusher Jared Verse. Now the focus should move to the secondary and adding a young piece to that unit who can give them a future at the position. Melton fits that bill. A trade back here could also be a possibility if the Rams look to add more picks inside the top-150 and close the gap between pick 99 and 154.

83: OT Kiran Amegadjie, Yale

The Rams opted not to take a tackle in the first round, meaning that Alaric Jackson will likely be the starting left tackle in 2024. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but Jackson is also just one a one-year deal as he signed a restricted free agent tender this offseason.

Amegadjie will need a year to develop, but taking him in the third-round, that’s ok. He has the tools and athleticism to be a starting tackle in the NFL. Sitting for a year behind Jackson and even Noteboom on the final year of their contracts would be enough time for him to refine his game. A player like Brandon Coleman or Dominick Puni would also make sense here. If the Rams go wide receiver, a player like Keon Coleman if he drops could also be an option. At the end of the day, I would expect the Rams at some point to add some depth to their offensive line.

99: DL Mekhi Wingo, LSU

Adding in the trenches remains the focus on day two. Wingo has been one of my favorite players this draft process and given his fit, he would make a lot of sense for the Rams. Despite his smaller size, Wingo is a good defender and can line up along the defensive line. He has a very quick get-off which puts him in the backfield frequently.

The Rams could look to add some size here later in the draft after losing Jonah Williams. However, Wingo and Kobie Turner would make for quite the dynamic duo along the defensive line. Again a trade back could be in the cards here, but if the Rams stay put, I like them to take a player like Wingo.
