Chelsea break the bank and we can call it a recurrence since the arrival of Todd Boehly at the head of the English club. The Blues, who have already recruited Andrey Santos (€12.5m), David Datro Fofana (€12m) and Benoît Badiashile (€38m) have just given themselves a new blow on this transfer market with the arrival of Mykhaylo Mudryk. While he recently celebrated his 22nd birthday (January 5), the native of Krasnohrad has just become the biggest transfer from a Ukrainian club and arrives for a sum of around 110 million euros (70M€ + 40M € bonus) on the Perfidious Albion side. A totally crazy figure which is explained by Shakhtar Donetsk’s reluctance to part with it and the battle between Arsenal and Chelsea in this matter.
Revealing himself during the 2021/2022 season by slowly taking a starting place in Roberto De Zerbi’s squad, the right-hander quickly showed great potential. With a great technical background, as well as high percussion and passing qualities, he ended his first season with 2 goals and 9 offerings in 19 games. A fanfare debut allowing him to discover the Ukrainian selection (8 caps). Stayed this summer despite interest from Brentford, Bayer Leverkusen or Nice, he finally gained ground.
Chelsea beat Arsenal
In a club jostled by the war and the exodus of its Brazilians from the country, Shakhtar Donetsk was forced to give more prominence to local players, allowing Mykhaylo Mudryk to become the undisputed star of the team. Brilliant both in the league and in the Champions League (10 goals and 8 offerings in 18 matches), he was able to confirm the beginnings already shown while increasing his statistics. A confirmation appreciated in the Premier League, in particular by Arsenal and Chelsea.
Arsenal made the first offers, but Chelsea followed by raising the stakes to the point of snapping up the signing of the young prodigy.
