In 2023, we saw Street Fighter 6 release, the biggest game in the series so far. It’s led to record sign-ups across fighting game events, but all of those tournaments were leading to this. The Capcom Cup X is about to begin.

Since its initial announcement ahead of the game’s release, everyone has known SF 6 esports would be different. The game’s inaugural year for esports has featured a bigger format than ever before. There’s a prize pool of $1,734,000, with $1,000,000 going to the winner alone. This tournament is going to settle everything and find the best SF 6 player. We’re just a month away from the start, how will all of this work and what can you expect?

Full Schedule Revealed

Capcom has just unveiled the full Capcom Cup X schedule! Now we’re nearing the event itself, we know a bit more about how things are going to work. We have the full schedule. We’ll see three full days take place for the Last Chance Qualifiers. This is a final shot at qualification, with quite a few major players still needing to win their slot. After this, we’ll see three more days for the Group Stage. The big finale, the top 16 bracket, will be taking place over a single day! We’ll also see a separate day for the Street Fighter League World Championship. It’s great to see all areas of SF esports represented here, not just the Capcom Cup.

Capcom Cup X Will Focus on Esports – No New Announcements

Another detail explained in the lead up to the Capcom Cup has been the contents of the streams. Capcom has made it clear that the event will be focused on esports exclusively. They’ve released a statement clarifying that the event will be focused on competitive fighting games. We won’t be seeing any new reveals for SF 6 content like new fighters.

While some hoping for a DLC update might be disappointed, it’s great to see the event getting committed entirely to competitive action. The Capcom Cup X has a historically high prize pool, so it’s great to see this event being the focus for a week.

Capcom Cup X Finals Begin in Just a Month

The Capcom Pro Tour is one of the longer-running fighting game circuits. It’s getting its biggest-ever tournament this year. So far, we’ve seen tons of tournaments narrowing down everyone in fighting games to just under 50 players. The absolute best of the best for SF 6 players.

How will the event work? It’s all starting on February 21, and wrapping up on the 25. It’s a four-day event with a few different stages. It begins with a group stage where players are seeded together and the pool of candidates is narrowed down. Then, we get the final Bracket. It’s a double-elimination tournament where players will be gradually knocked out. Until we have the very best players facing each other.

The Capcom Cup has gathered its competitors from quite a few of the biggest events. There are players like AngryBird and Chris Wong from Offline Premier events. Others coming in from EVO and plenty from online events.
