The team selected Thrash in the 5th round on Saturday
The Cleveland Browns selected Louisville WR Jamari Thrash with the 156th overall pick in the 5th round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
The team added depth and playmaking potential to its wide receiver room via All-Conference pass-catcher Jamari Thrash. He burst onto the scenes as one of the top “G5” receivers in 2022 while at Georgia State before transferring to Louisville last year.
Along with his standout senior season for the Cardinals in 2023, his overall performance at the Senior Bowl caught the eye of multiple NFL teams due to his separation ability and ball-tracking skills throughout the week.

What experts are saying
“Thrash makes up with speed what he gives away with play strength. He has an extensive history of stretching the field, showing an ability to find a second gear on deep routes or on short catches that turn into chunk plays. He’ll have some issues against NFL press, but formational consideration could help in that regard. Thrash has the physical ability to run a more complete route tree as a pro, but a lack of hand strength and frame size create too many drops and losses on contested catches. Thrash has the potential to work inside or outside but has excessive feast-or-famine qualities.” – Lance Zierlein, NFL Draft Analyst
“A majority of Thrash’s best traits show up in his route running. He’s a smooth mover. Whether it’s widening his stem without losing speed or sinking his hips to get through a route break, Thrash can weave through coverage and change directions with ease.” – Derrik Klassen, B/R
“In summation, Thrash profiles as a solid movement-Z receiver at the NFL level who could be a quality starter fairly early in his career. At the very least, he’ll be a great rotational presence with his reliable separation framework and his additional utility as a creative weapon.” – Ian Cummings, PFN Scout
Pros
- Great route runner, smooth in and out of breaks
- Excellent agility and footwork allows him to be consistent with speed releases
- Fluid hips, one of the best “hip-sinkers” in the class
- Good field awareness allows him to find and sit in blind spots in zone coverage
- Above-average ball-tracking skills and pace adjustment on deep balls
- Detailed body language on double moves, sells routes with crisp head fakes
- Knows how to help his QB by coming back toward the LOS on broken plays
Cons
- Has to work on strength at the catch point
- Skinny build
- Only a “decent” athlete
Browns player drafting will impact in 2024
David Bell. Though Bell comes in and does his job well whenever called upon, Thrash has the speed and suddenness to “jump” Bell on the depth chart during training camp.
Thrash and Bell are very similar players in terms of their mechanics and slot-specific skillset but Thrash is more athletic.
