Berrettini will miss the Sunshine Doubles: a dramatic situation, perhaps irreversible

on

By now we are used to Matteo Berrettini’s withdrawing from tournaments, but the situation is becoming dramatic from tournament to tournament. The Italian tennis player could also skip the American mini tour on hard-courts, when the prestigious ATP Masters 1000 will be played in Indian Wells and Miami.

The hypothesis became increasingly concrete as soon as the complete and official entry list of the BNP Paribas Open was published. In fact, in the Californian tournament, the Italian tennis player is not present at the end of the list with the possibility of rightfully entering the main draw through the protected ranking.

Under this heading there will be the young Canadian Denis Shapovalov, Milos Raonic and the Spanish champion Rafael Nadal. The only other way for Berrettini to participate is to receive a wild card from the organizers but, at this moment, all indications are that the 27-year-old will miss the Sunshine Doubles. An endless dark period for the former Wimbledon winner.

The Italian recently shared through his Instagram profile how he continues to work on the pitch, together with the new coach Francisco Roig, and in the gym to get back into physical shape as soon as possible.

“Step by step,” wrote Matteo on the post, who has not yet publicly expressed what the official date of his expected return to the field will be. The former Wimbledon finalist withdrew from the US Open at the end of August due to yet another injury and has never returned to competitive competition on the ATP Tour.

Even private life brings negative rumors

In fact, the romance between Matteo Berrettini and Melissa Satta would be at the end credits. Several Italian magazines said that the two will not even make it to Valentine’s Day.

The two have not appeared together, in social shots or private events, for some time now, and the breakup would therefore seem evident. On the one hand Matteo is in Monte Carlo and trains tirelessly to get back into top shape, on the other hand Melissa is enjoying some important relaxation, in the company of her friends and without even her son Maddox, directly in Saint-Moritz.
