Should the Bengals be eying Penn State’s Chop Robinson?
Over the next few months, numerous mock drafts will be released as the football season ends, and preparation for the next one starts to heat up. The April event is one where many players see their dreams come to fruition.
That said, the Cincinnati Bengals will be picking 18th overall. There are many directions they could go with the pick, but The Athletic’s Nick Baumgardner has Cincinnati taking Demeioun “Chop” Robinson with the selection.
Here’s what he had to say about the selection.
“Robinson (6-foot-3, 254 pounds) is going to test off the charts this spring. He has a 4.4 40-yard-dash speed and has posted a short-shuttle time of 4.22 seconds. His production has not matched his traits; however, his upside and potential positional versatility are undeniable. He hasn’t played like former Penn State star Micah Parsons, but he’s built like him,” Baumgardner wrote.
The Bengals have been linked to many players, including Georgia’s Brock Bowers. However, Robinson may be a more realistic expectation for pick No. 18.
At the same time, the Bengals going back-to-back first-round picks on the defensive line may not sit well with some. Robinson did end the 2023 season with four sacks. He did have 7.5 tackles for a loss, and 12 solo tackles as well.
That said, the Bengals could go for the upside if they think they may lose Sam Hubbard or Trey Hendrickson in the future. Robinson may also have some potential to play linebacker for Cincinnati if he can’t manage many snaps as a defensive end.
Robinson’s build, frame, and speed make him a strong prospect, but the Bengals may rather look at a spot with a most instant impact for the team.
