Backstage News on Vince McMahon Changing WWE RAW Plans

on

This week’s WWE RAW from Nashville ended with six-man action as The OC (AJ Styles, Luke Gallows, Karl Anderson) defeated Humberto Carrillo, Ricochet and WWE United States Champion Rey Mysterio in the main event. The match ended after a Ricochet vs. Styles exchange, which saw Styles hit a second rope Styles Clash for the pin. Randy Orton would then hit the ring and drop AJ with the RKO as the show went off the air.

In an update, Vince McMahon reportedly changed the RAW main event during the earlier pre-RAW producers meeting, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

It’s believed that the original idea was for Orton, Ricochet and Carrillo to defeat The OC, with Mysterio helping them get the pin, possibly countering help from Drew McIntyre for The OC.

Vince reportedly wanted the match changed and the storyline was to have Orton not wanting to team with the babyfaces, so Rey was put in the match. Vince also wanted Orton to hit the RKO “outta nowhere” on Styles, and to make that work he wanted Styles to be coming off a pin. Ricochet was the “unlucky pick” to take the pin since Vince didn’t want to beat Mysterio.
