As noted, Dio Maddin is still being kept off WWE RAW to sell the recent attack from WWE Champion Brock Lesnar. Samoa Joe filled in for him this past week.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that Joe will be back in action once his broken thumb heals, but there was a feeling backstage on how everyone recognized that Joe is really good in that role. The Observer also noted how Maddin was out-performed with Joe in the role.
On a related note, there is also a general feeling that WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler has been better than expected in his return to the RAW commentary team. Lawler’s experience has helped Vic Joseph get into the right rhythm. The only real direction with Lawler has been a push to stay away from some of the dated cultural references since the idea for RAW, at least right now, is to target younger viewers and push new talents.
