After his team’s defeat against Arsenal on Saturday in the Premier League (2-4), Unai Emery struggled to hide his annoyance against his own goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

After giving the Gunners the winning goal in spite of himself on Saturday on a CSC, the Argentinian goalkeeper wanted to catch up in added time by going up on his team’s last corner. On the counter, the London club finally scored a 4th goal, taking advantage of the empty goal left by Martinez. Something to seriously annoy his trainer Unai Emery. “He decided (…) I spoke with him at the end of the match, I never asked my goalkeepers to act like this”first dropped, his face closed, the Spanish coach at the microphone of Bein Sports.

The cold anger of the former Parisian technician
Relaunched on the overall performance of his team, Emery played the card of the franchise. “It’s not my idea. It wasn’t in my game plan. We worked differently. We led 1-0 then 2-1, that’s true, but a game lasts 90 minutes. Without the ball, it’s hard to keep clear ideas, to be consistent in our game plan. It’s hard to stop them it’s true, they were going to show up from a corner, attack our penalty area, they won and they deserve this victory”he insisted.
An already strained relationship with Martinez?
Not a big fan of the profile of the Albiceleste goalkeeper at the base, Unai Emery did not really appreciate the behavior of the latter after Argentina’s victory against the Blues in the World Cup final. “I will speak with him about some of his celebrations. There, I respect, he is in the national team. Afterwards, he will be with us and it will be our responsibility. We can talk about it”had warned the Spaniard just before the return of Martinez with his club.
