Carlos Alcaraz was sensationally eliminated in the semi-final of the Buenos Aires Open, defeated by Nicolás Jarry in straight sets, with the final result of 7-6 6-3. The young Spaniard’s 2024 season has not started in the best way, continuing the negative trend that Carlitos has been experiencing since post-Wimbledon 2023.
Alcaraz, after the Australian disappointment, did not hide his disappointment at the defeat, analyzing what happened in the match and explaining what he still needs to do to improve.
“It hurts, there are many things to improve. I played a good match, but the express tennis is far from my real level. Physically I felt good and that’s important, I believe that with work things will improve. The positive thing is that I see what I need to improve, and it’s a lot: I have to learn to read matches better, to give my best version in moments of tension.

“I try to think about my path and what I need to improve”
“There is great expectation on me in the tournaments I take part in. People think I have to always win and in the end this is tennis, there are many players who have a high level. At the moment I see that those who are up there, in certain moments, they are the ones that make the difference and that’s where I have to improve.
It’s a topic on which I’ve been pending for a long time, trying to take advantage of certain moments, on break points and on counter points they are moments that I have to manage as best as possible, I try to think about my path and what I need to improve, but I always try to think about the positive and in the next training sessions train it so that it doesn’t happen. It won’t happen again,” said the young Spaniard.
Carlitos also talked at the press conference about his rival and friend Jannik Sinner, analyzing his growth.
“Jannik is having a great moment. His level of tennis shows the confidence he has. He is a super worker and I’m not surprised that he is at this point right now. To beat him you have to play at a stratospheric level. I’m happy for him because he’s a very good person and on the pitch he helps me improve and bring out the best in me,” he explained.
Jarry, evidently satisfied with the victory, analyzed his performance, also praising his Spanish rival.
“It was one of the best matches of my career. Carlos is one of the best players, this success means a lot to me. I didn’t start at my best, I couldn’t score points on serve but gradually I got into the match,” Jarry said.
