Defensive tackle is still very much in the mix

Day 1 of the 2024 NFL Draft is in the books, and the Cincinnati Bengals have their right tackle of the future in Georgia’s Amarius Mims.

Who’s next is anybody’s guess, but at least five players are sure to be on the list.

WR Adonai Mitchell, Texas

With his combination of physical attributes and technical skills, Mitchell is one of the most intriguing wide receiver prospects on the board. At 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, Mitchell ran a 4.34 40 at the NFL Combine and shows exceptional body control. Many projections had him going in Round 1, so he’d be a steal on Day 2.

DT Jer’Zhan Newton, Illinois

Explosive, powerful, disruptive, and savvy are all words used to describe the 6-foot-2, 302-pound Newton. His impressive power and explosive first step combine to make him a nightmare for opposing offenses.

Keon Coleman, WR, Florida State

Coleman, at 6-foot-4 and 215 pounds, is one of the top wide receivers in the draft and shows an innate ability to box out defenders and make contested catches. He could be a great long-term replacement option for Tee Higgins.

DT Ruke Orhorhoro, Clemson

Orhorhoro, at 6-foot-4 and 294 pounds, shows surprising quickness for a big man, and his 4.89 showing in the 40 ranked him fourth among all defensive tackles at the NFL Combine. He is something of a project but offers upside against the run and as a pass rusher.

EDGE Chris Braswell, Alabama

Braswell, at 6-foot-3 and 251 pounds, turned in an impressive 4.6 showing in the 40 at the combine and amassed 42 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, and eight sacks for the Crimson Tide in 2023. Braswell also intercepted one pass, which he returned for a touchdown against Mississippi State. With the uncertainty surrounding Cincinnati’s Trey Hendrickson, this might be one to watch.
