2024 NFL Draft, Day 3: Packers’ picks, updates, and open thread

The Packers enter day three with eight more picks left to make. Let’s see if they end up using them all.

Let’s put a bow on this thing. After a thrilling day two that saw the Green Bay Packers select two of Acme Packing Company’s favorite prospects in the second round, the 2024 NFL Draft continues on with its third and final day today. Rounds four through seven of the draft will get underway at noon Eastern time today as teams put the final touches on their rookie classes with more than 150 selections over the next several hours.

The Green Bay Packers enter day three with a whopping eight more picks to make, including two that they acquired from the New Orleans Saints in a trade on Friday night. The Packers moved back four spots in the second round of the draft, from 41 to 45, acquiring additional selections in the 5th and 6th rounds in exchange. That leaves Green Bay with more picks than they realistically need, and general manager Brian Gutekunst may well decide to use some of those to climb up the draft board this afternoon.

As for the draft class so far, Green Bay has three likely day-one starters in its first three selections, with Jordan Morgan, Edgerrin Cooper, and Javon Bullard all likely to be in the lineup when the team opens the 2024 regular season against the Philadelphia Eagles in Brazil. They also landed a spark plug at running back in MarShawn Lloyd, a player with true breakaway speed in a compact package.

Still, there are plenty of interesting picks yet to come, as the Packers have found no shortage of key contributors on day three of the draft over the years. Just last season, the Packers drafted Dontayvion Wicks, Karl Brooks, and Carrington Valentine on day three, all of whom became critical players for the team in the later part of their rookie seasons.
