WWE reveals details, first entrants in King of the Ring Tournament

We already knew that WWE’s next event in Saudi Arabia would be King and Queen of the Ring. On Raw last night (April 22), they gave us some more information about how those monarchs would be crowned — and started to fill out the field for the men’s competition.

Gunther & reigning King of the Ring Xavier Woods made it clear they’ll be in the tournament before the match that apparently led to Giovanni Vinci’s Imperium ouster. The Ring General unsurprisingly announced his intentions to dethrone Woods and then take aim at… whatever WWE titleholder he wants to.

During his promo later in the episode, Drew McIntyre added himself to the mix, saying that he was setting his sights on being King of the Ring.

A video from Raw hyped the legacy of the crown. That mostly consisted of showing the current and future Hall of Famers who’ve won King of the Ring, but lone Queen Zelina Vega got a spotlight, too.

It also revealed that “next month, the tournaments begin again as the top superstars from Raw and SmackDown look to advance to the finals of the King and Queen of the Ring premium live event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.”

We expect more information will come once the dust settles on the WWE Draft, taking place this Friday (April 22) on SmackDown and next Monday (April 29) on Raw. Tournament matches will probably start pretty quickly after that as well, but might wait until after Backlash in France on May 4.

They can’t wait much longer than that, though. King and Queen of the Ring is only a little more than a month away on Sat., May 25.

All hail.
