Former Giants coach is quickly drawing interest

As expected, former New York Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale is quickly drawing interest from teams looking for a coach to fill that role.

Multiple reports Saturday afternoon indicate that Martindale will interview during the upcoming week with the Jacksonville Jaguars, with SI’s Albert Breer stating that interview will take place Tuesday and Wednesday.

Breer reported that Martindale’s ultra-aggressive defensive scheme is “one a LOT of teams are interested in.”

Ian Rapoport seconded that, saying that Martindale “has been a popular figure in defensive coordinator searches.”

The 60-year-old Martindale was let go by the Giants this week after clashing with head coach Brian Daboll. There was reportedly also some tension between Martindale and Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh when Martindale left the Ravens as defensive coordinator after the 2021 season.

Martindale will, of course, be asked for his version of events by the Jaguars and any other team considering bringing him on board. Martindale, though, is looked at as one of the NFL’s best defensive coordinators and it can’t be a surprise that he is quickly drawing interest.
