When was the last time the Ravens defeated their 2024 opponents?

The Ravens schedule has released and with it comes their matchups

While we already knew the 2024 opponents for the Baltimore Ravens, we now know when they’ll face one another with the schedule releasing on Wednesday. It’s set to be another big season for Baltimore as they hope to conquer the regular season once more and get to the all-important postseason and conquer their demons.

But to do so, they need to get back into the dance against what is expected to be one of the hardest schedules in football. This time, they are slated to face 10 (!) teams who made the playoffs the year prior. So, let’s reflect on their last victories over their scheduled opponents, albeit some are more pleasant than trips through memory lane.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Last Win: December 11, 2022

This may be the most frustrating one so let’s get it over with. The Ravens’ last win over the Steelers came in Week 14 of the 2022 season. It was the J.K. Dobbins return game, where after battling through injury for more than a year and undergoing a midseason knee scope, Dobbins stepped onto the field and bullied the Steelers in their house for 120 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries.

The game featured four different quarterbacks; Kenny Pickett suffered a concussion after being sacked on the first drive, forcing the Steelers to play backup quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. Tyler Huntley, who made the start due to Lamar Jackson being inactive, suffered a concussion later in the game, forcing third-string quarterback Anthony Brown Jr. to step in. His first NFL snap came backed up on the Ravens’ 1-yard line. Shockingly, the Ravens called a pass play and Brown delivered a three-yard dart to wide receiver Demarcus Robinson.

An impressive defensive effort from the Ravens held off the Steelers to win, 16-14.

Cleveland Browns

Last Win: October 1, 2023

Last season, the Browns threw rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson to the wolves in Week 4. The talk of the early season filled with the Browns defense handling business against the Bengals and Titans, allowing a total of six points in those two games. The team was 2-1, due to the Steelers beating them 26-22, but 14 of those points came from defensive touchdowns from the Steelers. Ravens defenders weren’t happy to hear all the praise of the Browns defense and took it out on DTR and the Browns offense.

Safety Kyle Hamilton, Geno Stone and Brandon Stephens all intercepted Thompson-Robinson. They totaled 11 passes defensed, 10 tackles for loss, eight quarterback hits and three sacks. It was an all-out assault.

Being gifted plenty of short fields, the Ravens trounced the Browns, 28-3, with Jackson scoring on the ground twice and connecting with Mark Andrews twice.

Cincinnati Bengals

Last Win: November 16, 2023

On Thursday night primetime, the Ravens swept the Bengals. This game turned into the controversy over Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, who was spotted with a cast of some kind on his hand prior to the game but went unreported. Burrow left the field with just under six minutes remaining in the second quarter and never returned. The Ravens would roll to their eighth win of the season behind a two-touchdown affair from running back Gus Edwards, who scored rushing touchdown No. 10 on the season, and two passing touchdowns from Jackson.

Las Vegas Raiders

Last Win: November 25, 2018

The last time the Ravens beat the Raiders, they were still in Oakland. They had the first crack at beating them after their relocation to Las Vegas, but fell to them in a sloppy Week 1 of 2021 in overtime, 27-33.

Their last win, however, was Jackson’s second career NFL start, a game filled to the brim with highlights. Cyrus Jones returned a punt for a 70-yard touchdown. Jackson threw his second career touchdown pass, this one to former Raiders wide receiver Michael Crabtree. Matt Judon racked up three sacks on three straight defensive plays and Terrell Suggs scored his first and only fumble recovery touchdown of his career on a 43-yard scoop-and-score to ice the game, 34-17.

Denver Broncos

Last Win: December 4, 2022

The Ravens currently hold a three-game win streak over the Broncos. It was an ugly win that saw Jackson leave due to a knee injury, Huntley struggle to move the ball and one of the ugliest interceptions in Ravens history as wide receiver James Proche threw the ball to triple-covered running back Kenyan Drake.

But the Ravens didn’t quit. Down six, they drove 91 yards on an 18-play drive and capped it with a two-yard Huntley touchdown. That play may go down as the greatest play of offensive lineman Kevin Zeitler’s career.

Buffalo Bills

Last Win: December 8, 2019

The first-ever marquee matchup between Jackson and Bills quarterback Josh Allen was a Week 14 showdown amid the Ravens’ dominant 2019 season. The Ravens looked to continue their win streak and did so as Jackson hung three touchdowns on the Bills on just 145 passing yards, including a 61-yard touchdown to tight end Hayden Hurst.

This was just one of 10 games in 2019 Jackson played in full. Jackson was benched due to the Ravens blowing out their opponent five times that season, along with not playing in Week 17 due to the team already securing the No. 1 seed in the AFC.

Washington Commanders

Last Win: October 4, 2020

This will be the first time the Ravens face the “Commanders,” as they were the “Washington Football Team” in 2020.

After a disappointing loss the week prior to the Chiefs, the Ravens took out their frustration at FedEx Field. Jackson blistered the Football Team defense on a 50-yard rushing touchdown, before connecting with Andrews on two separate 20+ yard touchdown passes. The Ravens scored a touchdown on four of their first seven drives and came away with a 31-17 win.

Philadelphia Eagles

Last Win: October 18, 2020

Two weeks after the Ravens’ win over the Football team, they defeated the Eagles in their barn, too. It was a bit more of a dramatic win, however, as the Ravens offense dried up in the fourth quarter, leading to back-to-back Justin Tucker field goals. The Eagles, down 30-14, scored on their next drive. With 3:48 left, the Ravens needed a couple first downs to ice the game. Instead, the Ravens faltered, going three-and-out.

On the Eagles’ first play, Ravens cornerback Marcus Peters was whistled for a 49-yard defensive pass interference penalty. Four plays later, Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz dove into the end zone.

But their comeback was ceased as linebacker L.J. Fort and outside linebacker Matt Judon combined for the game-winning tackle.

Kansas City Chiefs

Last Win: September 19, 2021

In their most recent regular season game, the Ravens beat the Chiefs. It was a long time coming as they’d lost four straight to the Chiefs and three straight in the Patrick Mahomes -Lamar Jackson era.

The game was an all-out duel between both quarterbacks and showcased their different styles. Mahomes threw for 343 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Jackson threw for 239 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions, but added 107 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns.

Talk of this game was pointed with criticism of Jackson being unable to beat the Chiefs and incapable of overcoming 10-point deficits. Both demons were exorcised by the game’s end.

To start, Jackson threw a pick-six on the third play of the game to Tyrann Mathieu.

The Ravens responded on the ensuing drive with wide receiver Devin Duvernay scoring his first career touchdown by recovering Ty’Son Williams’ fumble on the goal line.

The Chiefs offense would go on to score four touchdowns in their first six drives, with their fourth touchdowns putting them up by 11 with 6:50 remaining in the third quarter.

To begin the fourth quarter, Jackson would find the end zone on a two-yard touchdown but was intercepted on the two-point attempt. Down five, the Ravens defense held the Chiefs offense just enough to force a punt, which was shanked by Chiefs punter Tommy Townsend.

A 15-play, 7-minute, 58-second drive ensued, featuring 11 rush attempts, finished with a one-yard rush by Jackson to take the one-point lead. Again, their two-point attempt failed, and more than three minutes remained for the all-to-expected Mahomes comeback.

That comeback was well on its way when Mahomes got the ball. The Chiefs advanced 43 yards in three passing plays. But on 2nd & 3, Mahomes handed the ball to running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, who lost the ball a second later as rookie outside linebacker Odafe Oweh punched it loose and dove atop the pigskin for the recovery. Oweh had been drafted by the Ravens with the Chiefs’ first-round pick in a trade that sent offensive tackle Orlando Brown Jr. to Kansas City. And it was Brown who Oweh sped past to make the game-winning takeaway.

The final score: 35-34.

Los Angeles Chargers

Last Win: November 26, 2023

In their most recent meeting, the Ravens came out on top over the Chargers. The game had no real business being a 20-10 final score, seeing as the Ravens defense forced four takeaways, three punts and two turnover on downs, but they handled their business. The Chargers’ stars all struggled hanging onto the ball as quarterback Justin Herbert, running back Austin Ekeler and wide receiver Keenan Allen all fumbled the football. Thankfully, the Ravens hung onto the lead tighter than the Chargers did the ball, with a 13-10 lead with under two minutes remaining. That lead jumped to 10 points as wide receiver Zay Flowers was handed a jet sweep off the left side and sprinted 37 yards to the end zone. A few members of the defense weren’t all too thrilled he didn’t go down to ice the game. Namely, Defensive Coordinator Mike Macdonald, who was asked about the viral touchdown celebrations a few days later.

“I was hoping there was just one of them yesterday,” Macdonald said. “The second one, I don’t know if it was necessary or not.”

Dallas Cowboys

Last Win: December 8, 2020

Yet again on this list, the Ravens won their most recent game against the Cowboys. At home in primetime, the Ravens faced one of the infamous “Ravenkillers” as Cowboys backup quarterback Andy Dalton took the field. But his voodoo wasn’t enough as Jackson managed two touchdown passes on 12 completions for 107 yards, along with 94 rushing yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. The Ravens ran the ball all night, with 37 attempts for 294 yards and two touchdowns. Jackson, Edwards and Dobbins all rushed for 70+ yards. The Ravens bullied the Cowboys defense en route to a 34-17 win.

Houston Texans

Last Win: January 20, 2024

The most recent win over the Texans came in the AFC Divisional round back earlier this year.

At halftime, the Ravens and Texans were deadlocked at 10-10. The Ravens’ offense could hardly muster any progress as Texans Head Coach DeMeco Ryans was sending the blitz.

The Ravens went into the locker room and Jackson gave a halftime speech featuring “a lot of cursing,” he said.

They proceeded to march downfield on all four of their second-half drives, the first three ending in touchdowns. Jackson and Offensive Coordinator Todd Monken solved the blitz and it was over, 34-10.

New York Giants

Last Win: December 27, 2020

In their most-recent outing, the Ravens suffered one of their ugliest losses by way of self-inflicted mistakes. The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec called it “a clinic on how to give away a game you had no business losing.” So, let’s instead talk about the game they did win, two years prior.

In 2020, the Ravens cruised over the Giants. Jackson nearly did no wrong, going 17-for-26 for 183 yards, two touchdowns and another 80 yards rushing on 13 carries. His lone error being a bad exchange between him and Edwards, resulting in a lost fumble with the game already over. An all-too-easy 27-13 win.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Last Win: October 27, 2022

Again, the most recent game between these two clubs is a Ravens win. In fact, the Ravens have a five-game win streak over the Buccaneers. The last time the Ravens lost to the Bucs was in 2002, with Chris Redman as their quarterback.

Regarding their most recent win, though, was a most peculiar game.

The Ravens were facing one of the NFL’s worst rushing defenses. The Ravens were the No. 1 rushing team and just come off a win that featured 44 rushing attempts to 16 passing attempts. It was expected they’d do the same to Tampa Bay, as they’d bullied the far superior Browns defense doing so.

Instead, the Ravens ran the ball just seven times in the first half. They threw the ball 30 times. According to Harbaugh, it was their gameplan.

“That was the plan; we had a plan going in in terms of how we were going to try to approach this game. It really laid out exactly how we had anticipated, in terms of what we called, when we called it in terms of the run-pass ratio,” Harbaugh said. “I thought we’d do a little bit better than three points; we all thought we’d score a little bit more than three, but their defense is tough, and we couldn’t get going with first downs and getting drives extended, but that was how we planned on doing it.”

To make things worse, both Andrews and wide receiver Rashod Bateman left with injury. The first half was all ugly, with the offense at one point facing a 3rd & 36 and Tucker having a field goal blocked.

But in the second half, the Ravens rolled over the Tom Brady-led Bucs. Lamar Jackson was surgical. He was perfect. Eight attempts, eight completions, 94 yards, two touchdown passes.

The Ravens left Raymond James Stadium with a 27-22 win.
