With the NFL draft on tap today, we’ll see if the oddsmakers get the Jets’ pick right

After months of waiting, the NFL draft is nearly upon us. Since the fall, thousands of mock drafts and draft simulations have been done. On the whole, the majority of mock drafts seem to posit that the New York Jets will take either tight end Brock Bowers, an offensive tackle, or a wide receiver.

In the end, the Jets will only be able to take one player at pick #10. Fans often want to make their best guesses as to whom that will be. How can we determine that?

Well, much like everything else in 2024, we can check the betting lines while assuming that betting organizations are as well sourced as anyone nowadays. So what does DraftKings think (as of Tuesday at ~10:30PM EDT?

  • Offensive lineman: -115
  • Tight end: +180
  • Wide receiver: +235
  • Cornerback: +2500
  • Defensive line/edge: +4000
  • Quarterback: +10000
  • Linebacker: +10000
  • Running back: +15000
  • Kicker/Punter/Long snapper: +20000

As a general interpretation, more negative numbers reflect a more likely outcome. Within that context, DraftKings seems to think the Jets are going with an offensive lineman with their first pick. More specifically, an odds calculator would suggest that betting line implies about a 53.5% percent chance of the Jets taking an offensive lineman, which amounts to “slightly more likely than to not happen.

Beyond that, it basically seems DraftKings thinks the Jets will be taking a tight end (implied probability of 35.7%), a wide receiver (implied probability of 29.9%), or an offensive lineman, with all other positions being rather large longshots as shown by cornerback having the fourth highest odds at an implied probability of 3.8%.

What do you think? Which position would you bet on the Jets taking?
