WATCH: Solo golfer celebrates great shot, doesn’t realise someone was watching

They say you should always dance like nobody is watching – and the same goes for celebrating a great shot.

One solo golfer was left a little red-faced as her moment of spontaneous joy was witnessed by someone else on course.

At least she has a witness to her great shot while playing solo.

If this doesn’t warm your heart, it might have shrivelled away entirely and you need to get onto a course as soon as possible.

The golfer in question is Emily Lattner, better known by her social media handle thekosherpanda.

It might not be for everyone, especially players who enjoy the social elements of playing with a group, but every golfer should try playing a solo round.

Solo golf can be something akin to meditation, and for those people out there who enjoy time alone and want to be active, playing a few holes, 9 or the full 18 or more, depending on your venue of choice, is a great way to spend your alone time.

If you’re the type of person who forgets how to walk when people are watching you, there is a good chance that you might struggle to execute a natural swing while your buddies barely contain their giggles at your abject struggle to keep your shirt tucked in while trying to launch a hybrid an impossible distance. The point being that playing solo gives you some time to be alone with your game, the good the bad and the ugly that comes along with that, and also the chance to genuinely improve and to play at your own pace.

Playing alone, especially on a quiet course, is a great time to use the layout for invaluable practice for your game. Most casual players don’t get the chance to get their on-course reps to really improve their game. If you’re playing alone it presents a great opportunity to drop a few extra balls. Playing solo you can really go for it without the fear of falling flat on your face in front of friends or worse, business associates.

While playing solo might appeal to those you like to take their time it is also something that can be enjoyed by players who like to play quickly.

Group play is almost always going to take considerably longer than playing solo and it blocks players from rushing through a round. If you are zeroed in and really enjoying yourself in a quick round you can get just as much joy from the course in a shorter space of time.

Give solo play a try in 2024.
