New jersey numbers!

The Washington Commanders will have the rookies in Ashburn on Friday to start rookie mini-camp. The players have arrived, and that means they’re going to need jersey numbers as they enter the NFL. Many teams have already released their rookie numbers, and Washington made a few announcements, including a deal between rookie QB Jayden Daniels and team captain Tress Way for the #5 jersey.

Adam Schefter reports that Way didn’t want any money for the jersey number, Way requested to have a family trip to an Oklahoma vs LSU football game after he retires. Way played for Oklahoma, and wants that “rivalry” game with LSU from the current Heisman Trophy winner. John Keim noted that there will be more to the deal that hasn’t been reported.

“I just feel like there’s so much excitement around this organization. Hands down the most I’ve ever seen. Just all of the excitement building and building and building. I just feel like this is just a very small part that I can do. We’ve got a rookie coming in, can’t imagine what’s going on in his head and his heart. I’m there for him on fourth down if we have to give the ball away. Take this as an example that hey, I’m here for you now.”

The rest of the rookies got their numbers today. Second-round CB Mike Sainristil leaked his #2 jersey, and he’s taking the number that Dyami Brown has worn for the last three seasons. Brown and Tress Way will both be getting new numbers soon.
