Viktor Troicki says Novak Djokovic is definitely a top favorite for the French Open title but also noted that Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz cannot be underestimated.

So far in 2023, Djokovic owns a 15-1 record as he made it all the way at the Adelaide International and Australian Open before losing in the Dubai semifinal.

On the other side, Alcaraz has also gotten off to a strong start to 2023, while Nadal is set to return after suffering a hip injury in Australia.

During a conversation with Sport Klub, Troicki was asked who was the top French Open title favorite.

“Novak! Alcaraz is also there, but we cannot write off Nadal either. He is getting ready and wants to get back on clay. Whenever he plays at Roland Garros, he is among the favorites,” Troicki told Sport Klub.

Troicki: Djokovic is eager to play and ready for Monte Carlo

Last weekend, Djokovic started practicing on clay in Belgrade and Troicki was one of his sparring partners.

After practicing on Thursday with Filip Krajinovic, Djokovic went to Monte Carlo.

“Nole is ready for Monte Carlo. He will try to get the trophy there. His preparation has been going great. He is eager to play, eager for to play tournaments. I think he can go deep (in Monte Carlo),” Troicki said.

Last year, Djokovic went through a lot before he suffered a second-round exit in Monte Carlo.

This year, Troicki believes the situation is different and that Djokovic will do much better.

“I think it is different compared to last year. This time he practiced more because he knew then that he would not be able to go to America. He is more ready now because he has played more. He is in a competitive rhythm. He won Adelaide and Melbourne, the situations are different, he is more prepared and will start the clay season better than last year,” Troicki explained.

In Monte Carlo, Djokovic is a two-time champion.

It remains to be seen how well can Djokovic do in Monte Carlo this year.
