Meko Scott breaks down why he believes the Detroit Lions should draft University of Alabama cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry.

Another really interesting prospect in this year’s 2024 NFL Draft class is University of Alabama cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry.

In some ways, McKinstry’s college football arc can be compared to former Louisiana State University and current Houston Texans cornerback Derek Stingley Jr’s. Both started as true freshman on elite SEC defenses, which is a massive accomplishment by itself.

After all, current Detroit Lions defensive back Brian Branch was another true freshman that started for legendary coach Nick Saban in Tuscaloosa, and he is doing pretty well for himself in the league so far.

Like Stingley, scouts and executives seemed to cool on him as a prospect over time. Stingley would go on to be drafted third overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, while many are projecting McKinstry to be selected later in the first round, or even early on day two—depending on how things shake out.

Our own Meko Scott dives deep into the discourse surrounding McKinstry, and gives his take on why taking McKinstry at 29 overall would make sense for the Lions’ secondary if he is still available.

Meko does a really good job of breaking down all of the context around his idea. From how McKinstry would fit into defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn’s defense, to how this year’s strong cornerback class may do the Lions a favor and push someone as talented as McKinstry down the board.

You can catch Meko’s full breakdown here, and as always, thank you for taking the time to watch, and please be sure to like and subscribe to the Pride of Detroit YouTube channel.
