Uso, Dragunov, GUNTHER advance in King of the Ring tournament

Results from (some of) the first round tournament matches are in.

The King of the Ring tournament officially got underway on this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw in Hartford, Connecticut with three first round match-ups.

The results of said matches:

  • Up first, Jey Uso defeated Finn Balor via pinfall. Uso was put in the match as a replacement for Drew McIntyre, who was pulled from the tournament because he couldn’t get medically cleared for his scheduled match with Balor.
  • Later, Ilja Dragunov made his big debut as a member of the red brand with an instant TV classic against Ricochet. The Speed champion gave the former NXT champion one hell of a battle but Ilja was simply too much to overcome.
  • Finally, GUNTHER and Sheamus put on another banger (after ban… oh, whatever) in the main event, with the former forcing the latter to submit to advance.

The tournament continues on this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown. The finals are set for the premium live event of the same name on May 25 in Saudi Arabia.
