UPDATED 1/26/24: Chicago Bears Assistant Coach Interview Tracker

We’ll keep track of all the Bears news and rumors as they seek out a new coaching staff.

On January 10, the Chicago Bears announced the status of their coaching staff for the 2024 season. Head coach Matt Eberflus will be back, as will his entire defensive staff, although they still need a defensive coordinator after Alan Williams resigned early in the 2023 season. Eberflus announced they would overhaul the offensive staff, with the only holdovers being offensive line coach Chris Morgan and tight ends coach Jim Dray.

Eberflus and general manager Ryan Poles will go about filling in the gaps on the coaching staff in the coming days and weeks, and we’ll track all their interview requests here. We’ll also track other Bears-related nuggets for a coach or front-office positions around the NFL.

The Bears have hired Kerry Joseph as their new QB coach. (link) – Joseph is coaching the QBs at the Senior Bowl.
Former Packers DC Joe Barry will interview for the Bear’s vacant DC job. (link)
Sanjay Lal Lal has withdrawn his name from consideration for an assistant coach job with the Bears. (link)
On January 25 it was reported that the Bears requested permission to interview Buffalo Bills assistant head coach/defensive line Eric Washington for the vacant defensive coordinator position. (link)
With the Chargers hiring Jim Harbaugh as head coach, their GM search should heat up, and Bears Co-Director of Player Personnel Jeff King is still in the running (link), as is Assistant GM Ian Cunningham (link).
The Bears interviewed Seahawks passing game coordinator/wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal earlier today (January 23). (link)
The Bears officially announced Shane Waldron as their new offensive coordinator.

The Bears put in a request to interview Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator Kellen Moore for their vacant offensive coordinator position, but L.A. didn’t allow it. (link)
Per SI’s Albert Breer, former Bears OC Luke Getsy has been mentioned as a possibility in Las Vegas as their new offensive coordinator. Also mentioned were two coaches the Bears have interviewed for their OC job, Shane Waldron and Kliff Kingsbury. (link)
The Bears finally have an interview lined up for their defensive coordinator job as they’ll meet with Titans defensive pass game coordinator/CBs coach Chris Harris, who is a former Bears player and assistant coach. (link)

The Ohio State Buckeyes have hired Bill O’Brien as their new offensive coordinator, which is noteworthy for Bears fans because Kentucky OC Liam Coen, whom the Bears have interviewed for their open OC job, was also a candidate for that Buckeye gig.
Bears will interview Kliff Kingsbury, a senior offensive analyst and quarterbacks coach at USC, for their offensive coordinator job. (link)

The Bears have a request in to interview Eagles senior offensive assistant Marcus Brady for their offensive coordinator position. Brady was the Colts offensive coordinator/QB coach when Eberflus was coaching in Indianapolis. (link)
The Saints have requested to interview Seattle OC Shane Waldron, whom the Bears have already interviewed. (link)
Panthers offensive coordinator Thomas Brown will meet with the Bears today about the offensive coordinator job. (link) Brown is another coach with experience in the Shanahan tree having worked with Sean McVay and the Rams for three years.
On his podcast earlier today, Adam Jahns mentioned that he believes the Bears are also interviewing for their offensive staff during their coordinator interviews. (link) So, my guess yesterday that Waldron could get the coordinator gig with Olson remaining as his QB coach may be in play. Perhaps a passing and running game coordinator would be in the works as well.

Kentucky’s Liam Coen is a serious candidate for the Bears offensive coordinator job, but also the vacant OC job at Ohio State. (link)
This had been rumored, but now there’s some confirmation: The Bears have interviewed former Seattle QB coach Greg Olson for their vacant offensive coordinator job. (link)
The Bears plan to interview Kentucky offensive coordinator/QBs coach Liam Coen for their offensive coordinator position. Coen previously spent four years with the Los Angeles Rams and Sean McVay, including as their offensive coordinator in 2022. (Link)
The Los Angeles Chargers plan to interview Ian Cunningham for their GM job, and there is buzz growing that he’s the front-runner.
The Commanders are hiring 49ers’ assistant GM Adam Peters as their new general manager; Bears assistant GM Ian Cunningham was a finalist there.
