UFC 301 results: Jack Shore suffers gruesome cut on his leg forcing stoppage in fight with Joanderson Brito

Joanderson Brito quite literally chopped down Jack Shore to get the job done in the featured prelim at UFC 301 on Saturday.

A series of blistering leg kicks from Brito battered Shore throughout the fight but the damage done eventually opened a gruesome cut on the shin. With blood just pouring down the leg, the referee paused the action and the ringside physician checked the cut before declaring that he wouldn’t allow Shore to continue.

Following replays on the UFC 301 broadcast, Jon Anik revealed that the ringside physician believed that Shore may have suffered a fractured leg, which led to the decision to stop the fight.

The end came at 3:35 in the second round.

“I’m at another level in this division,” Brito said following the win. “I just showed that tonight.”

From the start of the fight, Brito was hammering that lead leg with kicks, which had Shore backing up and trying to play defense at the same time. While Shore did manage to tie up Brito early in the fight, he struggled to deal with the aggressive game plan coming from the Brazilian.

Brito mashed down on the gas pedal in every major exchange as he blasted away at Shore with huge, heavy shots but still staying measured so he didn’t over extend himself.

As the kicks continued to chip away, Brito had Shore backed up against the cage when he unloaded another massive kick that ricocheted off the shin. A second later, a gash opened up and blood began pouring down Shore’s leg.

When there was finally a brief break in the action, the referee paused the fight to allow the ringside physician to examine Shore’s leg. He took a good look at the leg and the cut and ultimately decided Shore shouldn’t continue.

The win moves Brito to 5-0 in his past five outings as he starts climbing closer and closer to ranked competition in the UFC.
