Went from zero to 100 real quick.
Did you know Trey Hendrickson was unhappy in the Queen City?
Well, I, for one, did not, and neither did the strong majority of Bengaldom.
Alas, the Cincinnati Bengals now have a potentially major problem on their hands.
Hendrickson, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, has requested a trade the day prior to the commencing of the 2024 NFL Draft, in which Cincinnati is slotted to pick 18.
According to The Cincinnati Enquirer’s Kelsey Conway, Hendrickson has also considered retiring.
The Bengals have an ample amount of needs, and the defensive line is one of them. Hendrickson and Sam Hubbard have been staples of the Bengals’ defensive line over the last several years.
While their intent seems to be to keep Hendrickson on the roster, he, like Tee Higgins, is going to want to be paid, and it’ll be Cincinnati to figure out how to use the ample cap space they have.
Hendrickson has put up 14 or more sacks in two of his three seasons in Cincinnati, totaling 17.5 a year ago. That said, who knows what is going on in the Bengals’ front office.
Here are some thoughts from Twitter regarding this situation.
I can confirm Trey Hendrickson has requested a trade, as @AdamSchefter reported.
I can also confirm the #Bengals have zero interest in dealing him and don’t intend to do so.
Just as with Tee Higgins, they are trying to win the Super Bowl this year, not deal stars.

Breaking: I just spoke with Trey Hendrickson’s agent, Harold Lewis, about Hendrickson’s trade request.
Hendrickson is hopeful the Bengals reconsider and give him a long-term deal. If not, he wishes to be traded. Trey is also considered retirement. More to come @Enquirer

So Trey wants to be with the Bengals but also with another team and an extension but also might retire.
His reps are buttfumbling

All in, my ass.
— Cincy Jungle (@CincyJungle) April 24, 2024
Haha butts.
All three of these points can be true: the Bengals shouldn’t want to extend with two existing years, Hendrickson should not have signed on for 2025 last year, and Hendrickson deserves a raise. https://t.co/KrBwKzq8Xj

The timing is insane, but Trey Hendrickson kinda does deserve a bigger and longer-term deal.
— Willie Lutz (@willie_lutz) April 24, 2024
The Bengals should pay Trey Hendrickson if for no other reason than their edge drafting since 2011 has been damn-near apocalyptic outside of Sam Hubbard.

Crazy thing is Mike Brown went to bed an hour ago.
He’s gonna wake up as shocked as all of us.

Bengals could save $12.3 million in cap in a pre-June 1 Hendrickson trade and $15 million post-June 1.
— Mike Petraglia (@Trags) April 24, 2024
The Bengals have a shit load of cap left for this season and even for next season if they’re not gonna extend Tee Higgins.
Hand Trey Hendrickson a fat deal, front load the cash, and move on.
This screams frustration from the agent and player.
— Willie Lutz (@willie_lutz) April 24, 2024
This has been going on for a while with Trey Hendrickson, who quietly missed offseason workouts two offseasons ago. Bengals later did a one-year bridge deal at $21M but was never a long-term solution for the player.

Trey Hendrickson, YOU will be a Cincinnati Bengal week one buddy.

Trey Hendrickson want outta Cincy!!! Wants to be paid as a top rusher as he should!!!
— Marcus Spears (@mspears96) April 24, 2024
I mean Trey Hendrickson is going to be 30 this winter.
I’d give him another year or two. If you lose him, the #Bengals D Line goes from bad to really bad.
Trey is the only one with the ability to rush a QB. 17.5 sacks speaks for itself.
Just repay the dude.

Looking back at an interview with Trey Hendrickson from last July, right after he signed his contract extension.
“Great coaches, great people and a great organization. It starts from the top all the way down. I get to be a part of that for another year. It’s special.”
“I want…

Bengals losing DJ Reeder & Trey Hendrickson would break that defense – also that defense is a massive part of what makes Cincinnati a dangerous team contrary to popular belief

Either leak the depth chart and try and throw hands with a coach on the sideline or actually sit out games.
Anything short is not getting you traded out of Cincinnati.

Laiatu Latu, come on down!
You are a Bengal (yes, I liked Latu well before, and irrespective of, Trey’s trade request).
