The line got bigger.
Round 1 of the NFL Draft is in the books for the Cincinnati Bengals. With the 18th overall pick, they selected offensive tackle Amarius Mims.
With Trent Brown on just a one-year deal and having missed multiple games in pretty much every season he’s been in the NFL, Mims may not look like an important pick in terms of 2024, but there’s a very real chance he ends up starting a host of games this year.
Then in 2025 when Brown likely leaves as an unrestricted free agent, Mims can step in and be the long-term right tackle for a franchise that hasn’t exactly had much stability at any of the five offensive line spots beyond a couple of years.
Here is how Twitter reacted to the selection.

Here’s Amarius Mims kicking ass. Not hard to look back and see how he could be the best offensive lineman in this draft.pic.twitter.com/xmnM7DUSCR

It was meant to be with Mims after the Trent Brown signing.
We may look back in 3 years and find that Amarius Mims is the best Tackle in this impressive OT class.
Bengals needed to find a foundational piece on the OL. Mims fits the bill. The skill and traits are tantalizing. https://t.co/qG2dulYhZ9

Amarius Mims is a physical specimen with rare natural movement skills in pass pro at 6’8” 340. Goes to a great spot in Cinci where he doesn’t have to play right away and can learn from two similarly sized, very different tackles in Trent & Orlando Brown.

Taylor says Mims will work on both sides with LT Orlando and RT Trent Brown stationed as outside starters right now.

Amarius Mims sounds ecstatic to land in Cincinnati.
Said Zac Taylor told him during his visit they were going to “go and get him” at No. 18.
“It’s just wild. I watched Joe Burrow at LSU, and I said, ‘Man, I would love to block for this guy.”
Adds: “All I could do was cry.” pic.twitter.com/uzYfi270nn

Predictive mock: 1/1
The most predictable pick for the Bengals outside of the top 10!
Amarius Mims represents a ceiling and a rare opportunity to acquire that level of athleticism. Inexperience means he may need reps and time to develop, but he could take over that starting job…

Amarius Mims was drafted with pick 18 of round 1 in the 2024 draft class. He scored a 9.59 #RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 57 out of 1377 OT from 1987 to 2024. https://t.co/YiQ8k70TKo pic.twitter.com/eGlFdAV1On

This is not a real argument.
Pollack has never been given an offensive linemen with an ounce of talent.
Mims is the opposite of that. https://t.co/1KR2CrceIf

Joe Burrow’s new bodyguard just landed in Cincinnati
Amarius Mims’ scouting report via @gregcosell
STRENGTHS:
– Outstanding size and length for an offensive tackle; long arms and big hands with a well-proportioned, lean frame
– Came off the ball low with good leverage… https://t.co/yuD5JhjHbl pic.twitter.com/0qBRpLiu7P
