The first round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, a historic event in the world of the PGA Tour, has just concluded. This tournament is primarily held between Spyglass Hill Golf Course and Pebble Beach Golf Links. Currently, Belgian Thomas Detry leads the rankings, thanks to an exceptional performance with 10 birdies and only one bogey, finishing with a score of -9 (63 strokes) on his first day in California.

Just one shot behind Detry, who played at Spyglass Hill, is the first American, Patrick Cantlay, who played a bogey-free round. In third place, Frenchman Matthieu Pavon is the best player at Pebble Beach Golf Links, with a score of -7.
In fourth place are Emiliano Grillo of Argentina and Si Woo Kim of South Korea, both with a score of -6. Grillo played at Spyglass Hill, while Kim played at Pebble Beach. Rickie Fowler and Collin Morikawa share sixth place with a score of -5, both looking to improve their game.
The round of 16 group is larger and includes six players. Ludvig Aberg from Sweden, Justin Rose from England, Justin Thomas and Sam Burns from the USA arrived from Spyglass Hill. While Eric Cole and Denny McCarthy represent the United States at Pebble Beach.
Another protagonist of the week is Rory McIlroy, who has 10 chances to return to world No. 1, including victory. He currently sits in 39th place with a score of -1, due to a triple bogey on the par 5 hole 7 at Spyglass Hill. At the moment, Scottie Scheffler is ahead of him, occupying 14th place with a score of -3 and maintaining his status as world No. 1.
Pebble Beach is located in Monterey County on the Monterey Peninsula. It is bordered by Carmel-by-the-Sea to the south, Pacific Grove to the north, the city of Monterey to the east, and the Pacific Ocean to the west. Big Sur is about 40 miles south on scenic State Route 1. Santa Cruz and San Francisco are about 45 and 120 miles north, respectively.
Technically Pebble Beach isn’t a city at all, but rather a conglomerate owned by the Pebble Beach Company. Residents pay special taxes for road maintenance as well as residential property taxes to Monterey County. The community’s post office is called Pebble Beach, but the United States Census Bureau places the area under the jurisdiction of Del Monte Forest.
The area is also partially administered by the Del Monte Forest Foundation, a non-profit organization designated by Monterey County and the California Coastal Commission, comprising a group of 12 volunteers interested in preserving open spaces belonging to the Del Monte Forest land. Except for two representatives of the Pebble Beach Company, all must be landowners and residents of the location.
